Motives

Metta Charity is a non-profit social charity organization registered in Melbourne, Australia which is maintained as the main branch and sub-branch have been maintained in Sri Lanka in affiliates to the main branch.

Our motives are;

The motive of the establishment of this social organization is to raise funds to provide for the underprivileged people and children in developing countries (mainly in Sri Lanka) by supplying shelter, food, health and education in a caring environment.

 

The goal of the Association is to empower the people to break the poverty cycle by providing opportunities for them to improve their economic, social and educational conditions.

 

Further, This association is also devoted to preserving and spreading Theravada

Buddhism by creating opportunities such as;

  • to make aware the public on the Dharma,

  • to help Sanga in their needs and

  • to protect Buddhist monasteries by helping through renovation and development.

 

Therefore this Association, as a social and religious welfare organization shall adopt various programs and projects in Australia and developing countries (mainly in Sri Lanka), and execute and give effect to such programs and projects as details mentioned below;

Relief of Poverty

  • Provide accommodation for homeless people, Provide food, clothing and other essential items to people in need.

  • Establishment and execution of various projects for the welfare of people who are lacking basic necessities like Shelter, Food, Health & Education.

  • Assisting and giving support to social and religious welfare organizations already operating in Sri Lanka.

Religious Welfare

  • Establishment and execution of various projects for the development of Buddhist Monasteries such as helping to accomplish in-completed constructions of any Buddhist monasteries as well as helping to the renovation of existing Buddhist monasteries.

  • Contributing to the needs of ordained monks and nuns with support for food, accommodation, healthcare, education, and practice. Supporting monks and nuns is leads to the preservation of the Buddha Dharma is dependent on the existence of Sangha.

  • Organizing of awareness programs in Sri Lanka as well as over-seas about Buddhist Philosophy in order to encourage the teaching, practice, and realization of Buddhist Principles, with a special emphasis on morality, meditation, wisdom and compassion, with special emphasis on the Theravada tradition; and to establish and maintain facilities to make available to the general public these teachings and practices.

Disaster Relief

  • We provide money and goods to people who have suffered a loss due to natural disasters both in Australia and overseas.
